Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is where Make a Smile all started. It is the founding chapter and central hub for the charity, created in the summer of 2017.
Starting as a small group of friends visiting a handful of children, the Cardiff chapter has grown year on year and have ambitions to continue to grow.
"We can’t thank Make a Smile enough for bringing utter joy to our children’s faces every time they see their favourite Disney Princess walk into the room. The volunteers interact with the children with such warmth and sensitivity and really do ‘Make a Smile’ whenever they appear!"
Emily Anthony - Cerebral Palsy Cymru
"Cardiff Flying Start would like to say a huge thank you to the Make A Smile who helped make our Fun Days at Western Leisure Centre and Pentrebanezone so much fun for the families in the West.
The Make A Smile volunteers were really enthusiastic, friendly and engaging with children and parents and we look forward to working with them again."
“The children enjoyed and a further visit would be arranged.
Seeing the smiles on the faces of sick children, who may have been through so much is wonderful, and for that time, they are taken to a world of fantasy and make believe. All involved really do Make others Smile."
"Make a Smile are an incredibly hard working student led organisation and it has been a great pleasure working with them this year. I have seen them first-hand bring massive smiles to the faces of children and adults alike, in public areas and on our wards here at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. All of the young volunteers are extremely professional and compassionate and we are very much looking forward to working with them for many more years."
"We would be incredibly blessed and delighted if you were happy to return at some point. It even inspired our patients to reminisce, sing, dance and chat. Words cannot express the feelings that arose. A relative told me she had happy tears for the first time in years hearing (volunteer name) sing. What a voice!!! The young violinist, (volunteer name) was such a star and the sound was incredible, thank you. She really did so well to do every bay too! She must have been exhausted! We really appreciated it. The organ player was brilliant and did so well. It made us all have a sing a long! You named it aptly as smiles were definitely order of the day! Thank you!"
